FB Paddle Racing, Inc. is a North Carolina non-profit entity whose purpose is to foster competition
in all types of paddlesports racing, particularly on the French Broad River. Our primary event is the
two-day French Broad Classique,
held annually in the latter part of April (2014 dates are April 26-27)
near Asheville, North Carolina. The French Broad Classique has paddling events for competitors of
every experience level and craft: canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Competitors can come for
one or both days and are welcome to switch to different boats or different classes.
In 2013, eighty (80) people raced in the French Broad Classique in very tough conditions. Twenty-one (21) of those raced both days, making a total of one hundred one (101) starts (and finishes; there were no DNF's)!!! Seven (7) folks completed the Fifty Mile Challenge on Saturday, and Bil Aylor came back and raced another sixteen miles on Sunday!! Results for the 2013 event can be found by clicking here. Many, many thanks to all who raced and all who volunteered. Pictures coming soon!
On June 21, 2014, FB Paddle Racing will host the United States Canoe Association's National Stock Aluminum Canoe Marathon Championships. This event will also include USCA's National Championships for Downriver Kayaks (ICF Wildwater specifications). We are delighted to have been selected to organize this event.
